Rhode Island Overtime Calculator
Rhode Island pays overtime after 40 hours, adds Sunday and holiday premiums in retail, and has written its next raise into law: $16.00 in 2026, $17.00 from January 1, 2027. Its Division of Taxation decoupled from the federal overtime deduction.

Your no-tax-on-overtime deduction
Rhode Island (2026): taxes all overtime — no state deduction.
Sunday and holiday pay
Two Rhode Island laws, separate from the minimum wage act, require time and a half for work on Sundays and holidays in retail and certain other businesses. It is a state-only premium: the calculator does not add it, and it never counts toward the federal deduction.
A schedule in R.I. Gen. Laws § 28-12
The minimum climbed from $9.60 in 2016 to $14.00 in 2024, $15.00 in 2025 and $16.00 in 2026; the statute sets $17.00 commencing January 1, 2027. Wage complaints go to the Department of Labor and Training’s Labor Standards unit.
ADV 2025-20
The Division of Taxation’s October 2025 advisory lists “No tax on qualified overtime” among the items allowed federally but not under Rhode Island law, so overtime stays fully taxable on the RI-1040.
