01

Comp time instead of overtime

Washington’s overtime rules do not apply to employees who ask for compensating time off instead of premium pay, according to the U.S. DOL state summary.

02

Getting paid

Labor & Industries investigates unpaid wages and can even recover bank fees caused by a bounced paycheck if you tried to cash it within 30 days of issue. Disputes over agreed-upon benefits fall outside its reach; for those it points workers to an attorney or small claims court.

Washington went from $9.47 in 2016 to $13.50 in 2020 and $16.28 in 2024, and L&I announced $17.73 for January 1, 2027.
